A
Day in the
Life
My Life as a Night Staff Worker.
Here are some examples of what I see while at work. These examples are taken from Kellum Hall, where I work every Tuesday and Friday night.
If you notice, there are a number of flyers that the RA's post on the walls. These are to keep the residents up-to-date on events going on in the residence hall and on campus.
All of the RA's have to update boards in their halls. I'm not sure how many times a semester they have to do it, but it's always fun to look at what they do. Some are more creative than others.
In the case of this board, vandalism isn't always a bad thing. This RA made a board to remind the student to have safe sex during Valentine's weekend, and some residents wrote in examples of STD's.
This RA went above and beyond. This Jeopardy-inspired board has a minimum of a whole paragraph of information under each flap. I work this hall at least twice a week and I still haven't read them all!
Of course, the best way to get someone's attention is with Beyonce. That combined with puns really helps pass the message.
This gallon sized bag of condoms was full only a few hours before I went on shift. By the time I got to work? It was empty. Question is, did that many people actually have sex or are they just making water balloons out of the condoms?
The painting of Marilyn Monroe is on the sixth floor of Kellum Hall. It was painted in the late 90's, and is a beautifully detailed picture. Unfortunately, Housing doesn't allow painting on residence hall walls anymore. Even worse, the hall is going to be torn down after this semester and the painting with it.
Once again, puns are the way to go. It actually took me a minute to realize what the flyer was saying, but when I did I chuckled.
This board in particular catches my eye when I go on rounds. In the center is a giant picture of a salad, surrounded by categories such as this for options for making a healthy salad. I never thought about using lemon squeeze as a dressing--I should try it sometime.
